My 8 month old daughter is eating stage 2 baby foods. I have looked in my books for specific amounts on how much to feed her but the books only say take out only enough for what you will use. With a 4 oz jar I take out 10-15 baby spoonfuls of food which is about 1/2 the jar and then give her formula after wards. She seems happy and full and is gaining weight so I must be doing something right. Any suggestions from the moms here.

Information About Infertility Stress

January 27, 2010 by Adrian Logan

Infertility is considered as one of the most stressful situations that any couple has to go through. The treatments for it can contribute to the stress that the couple goes through. Just by knowing that the treatment can add stress, the couple gets more stress and it can worsen their chances of getting pregnant.

But what are some of the factors behind infertility stress? What causes it?

Firstly, it can begin from knowing you are infertile. After having sex for a long time, the couple finds they are unable to have children and they seek medical attention. One or both could very well end up feeling depressed and inadequate when the specialist diagnosis says it is due to infertility.

Secondly, further stress can be added to the couple who has decided to undergo infertility treatments. Such treatments can prove exceedingly and prohibitively expensive depending on the treatments required.

And the process itself of having to go in and out of doctors’ waiting rooms and hospitals, among other places, waiting with bated breath for results can surely add more stress on top of the existing stress,

Thirdly, the stress can be added from the lovemaking itself. Many couples may not be able to get past the fact that they are unable to bear children normally. This can make things very hard for them because they may have to make recourse to more medical procedures if they are unable to consummate the sexual act.

In addition, sex may feel forced and even something of a chore for the couple, since they would have to be doing it according to a schedule and in order to produce children instead of simply enjoying one another and/or giving each other pleasure.

In addition, having to undergo fertility treatments may be even more demeaning for men, who may very well feel emasculated and feel that they are responsible if they are unable to produce babies with their wives. Plus it may prove extremely embarrassing to have to produce semen in doctors’ offices, for instance – or to have other people aside from their wives learn that they have low sperm count or, worse, erectile problems.

It is extremely important to consider how the couple responds to such stress in the first place. Some can simply take it in stride and be positive even in the face of potential failure; others can be negative right at the outset even if the future for them might not be so bleak, and immediately contemplate having to adopt children while agonizing over how unfair things seem to be, and so on and so forth. This can result in a drastic lowering of self-esteem for couples and individuals.

Infertility can cause many couples to go through extreme strain. Many couples buckle under this strain, and many of them end up breaking up. There are some who end up stronger couples after going through this experience.

If you are struggling to get pregnant, then you need to discover about a holistic and ancient Chinese system for getting pregnant and having healthy children. Reverse both female and male infertility issues and improve the quality of your life dramatically!

Is it baby colic?

My baby is 3 months old. EVERY OTHER NIGHT, he screams in pain. My partner thinks he is hungry and feeds him. He then screams even more. He is being bottle fed and won’t poop for a couple of days. He wakes up in the morning, and is fine. He kicks off again at about 6pm. We can’t seem to burp him, he will bring up a lot of wind but still cry. We give him Infacol which helps and Gripe Water which seems to do nothing. Does he have colic? Is he constipated? Is he being over-fed? I don’t want to go to the doctor just yet, I don’t feel there is a serious problem but it’s upsetting. My partner says I should not put Infacol in with his milk but I have heard of lots of people that do this. Is this okay? I don’t find doctors very helpful.

Selecting a Digital Baby Monitor

January 26, 2010 by Candace Martin

Of course, you want to make sure that your baby is protected and watched at all times. And, even when you’re at home with your little one, there are still several times throughout the day where you may not be in the same room with your baby. This is why you’ll need to start shopping for digital baby monitors, and you can do this without having to leave your home.

The main reason that parents get digital baby monitors is so they can complete other chores around the house while their baby is sleeping or playing in another room. You will need to ensure that the monitor you select is not on the same frequency as other electric devices that you own in order for you to be able to know when your infant is crying and needs you. This is the rationale behind the video baby monitor, which is fast becoming a popular choice. So, if you are unable to hear your infant due to technical issues, you will still see him/her on your monitor, and be able to respond appropriately if the infant needs you. This option is more costly. However, users believe you get what you pay for.

If you opt for the audio digital baby monitor, both one-way and two-way models are available. Determine which feature meets your needs. If you only need to be able to discern baby’s weeping or activity, a one-way monitor will do the trick. If you choose a two-way monitor, not only will you hear any sounds your infant makes, but your infant can also hear you. This might be nice if you are unable to respond immediately to your baby, but want to reassure him or her with your voice. Older children, in particular, might benefit from this feature.

As you compare digital baby monitors, you will want to consider how big your house is. The larger your home, the higher the frequency required for clear sound quality. Also, homes with more thickly insulated walls will benefit from the higher capacity that accompanies a higher frequency monitor. This will increase the range of the monitor, so that you can hear your child’s cry clearly–even if you’re on another story of the house. Portability is critical. You need to be able to carry the monitor throughout your home so it can accompany you on any task necessary. That way you can still keep an ear out for your baby.

Online retailers offering monitors are plentiful. If you prefer to shop from the comfort of your couch, you can still find the model that fits your needs. Amazon.com has a great selection, as well as reviews from past customers, and Overstock.com will offer you great prices on monitors from trusted name brands.

Baby monitors have made life so much easier for parents these days. Finding the best baby monitor for your needs is the only hard part, because there are so many to choose from!

Toilet Training for New Parents

January 25, 2010 by Paul Jason James

Everyone has an opinion on when a child should be toilet trained. First time parents are often bombarded with comments of “isn’t he potty trained yet?” and

“My baby was potty trained at eighteen months”. The conflicting advice can be confusing.

Are You Ready?

Toilet training isn’t something you wake up one morning and decide to do. Before you begin, there are preparations that can make the whole thing easier. First, both parents need to decide the method that they’re most comfortable with. Do you want to use a potty chair? A potty seat? What words are you comfortable teaching your child to communicate the need to use the bathroom. Next, decide if you’re going to use a reward system. What will it be? A sticker chart?

What does the child get for how many stickers? Is this the best time to start? Is there something major coming up in the near future that will throw the potty training program off schedule? If you’re planning a marathon cross-country trip in two weeks, this probably is not the time to try to toilet train your baby unless you’re ready to make potty stops every ten minutes.

Is Your Baby Ready?

Unless your child is ready to begin toilet training, you’re in for a long haul and a lot of resistance. Until a child’s neurological development reaches the point that the signal from the bladder reaches the brain in time to act, potty training will be futile.

You’ll know your child is ready to begin toilet training when he expresses curiosity about the toilet and follows you into the bathroom to see what you are doing. You should encourage this and answer his questions. He’ll also start having longer periods of clean diapers as he develops more control over his bladder and bowels. Ease Into It

Toilet Training is a process, not an event. It can very well take several months for daytime toilet training to be successful and nighttime toilet training can take even longer so prepare yourself and your expectations accordingly.

If you look at this as the final step from babyhood to childhood, the time flies. Just like Potty Training, this is a process which required focused effort.

Weight Loss After Pregnancy

January 24, 2010 by admin

It is to be expected after pregnancy that your body will have some left-over fat, and while most new mothers want to get rid of unwanted fat and cellulite as soon as possible, this can be easier said than done, this can be easier said than done.

A newborn baby ends up taking so much time and attention that the last thing you may feel like you have room for in your schedule is a diet and exercise routine to lose weight. However, as you will see, the added time pressure will not prevent you from getting rid of the extra pounds as long as you do it right and have the right mindset. Below are three easy tips that you can start using right away to begin losing post-pregnancy pounds:

1. Avoid junk food: Cravings can be difficult to avoid, especially if you are under stress and not getting enough sleep, but this one step is one of the most crucial things you can do to start losing weight and avoid putting any more on. Not only does junk food prevent you from losing weight, but it can sap your energy levels, clog your digestive system, and introduce toxins into your body that are difficult to get rid of.

At the same time, you do not have to starve yourself – small, frequent meals are better for you anyway, so you need not go any more than three hours or so without food. Just make sure that you are making good nutritional choices like lean protein, complex carbohydrates and fiber, and avoiding sugar and refined carbs.

2. Work out: Keep in mind that “working out” does not necessarily mean you have to plan trips to the gym or buy expensive exercise equipment. Instead, you can simply try to take a 20 to 30-minute jog four or five days a week, whenever you find time. Even three times a week will give you a lot of benefits. When combined with a healthy diet, simple jogging will give you visible results in a matter of weeks, and you will begin to find yourself more energetic and better able to face the challenges of the day.

3. Maintaining a positive outlook: Having a positive attitude can be the difference between success and failure if you are trying to lose weight, a goal that takes more will-power than just about anything else for most people. If you can find ways of staying motivated, it will help your progress. Try keeping a weight-loss journal with a pre-pregnancy picture of yourself and track your progress by weighing yourself and taking a progress photograph weekly (or maybe once every two weeks in the very beginning). As you begin to see visible results, you will feel good about continuing.

If you follow these three basic steps, you will achieve the fat-loss results you are looking for in less time than you think.

Home Schooling and Young Children

In recent years, home schooling has become extremely popular especially among middle and upper class families. There have been many arguments before about home schooling. Experts claim that there are advantages as well as disadvantages in home schooling but it seems the former outweighs the latter and so, a lot of families are now choosing home schooling over the traditional schools.

Cultures vary and somehow the relations of the family are affected. In some cultures, family ties are quite strong but there are also those who don’t have very good relationships with family members. Through home schooling, family ties and relationship can be enhanced. Parents will spend enough time for their kids because of the home schooling program and the children will have to listen to their parents well. Communication is improved and both parties will learn about the importance of speaking and listening.

Many families prefer home schooling because of its diversity. Since the cost of home education is a bit higher than traditional schools, the financial standing of the family is very important. However, the financial factor has not yet been established and most parents will still go for the home schooling option because it can ensure their kid’s safety. Public schools often have dangerous situations that can terribly affect kids but if they are in a home schooling program, they can stay away from these situations and their parents will be there to guide them.

Instead of enrolling the kids at a public school, most parents will prefer home schooling because the learning environment in the public is not that conducive. Very young pupils may experience difficulties that can affect them socially, mentally, and academically. Experts who conducted studies claim that the children will learn better in a good environment surrounded by loved ones. Another advantage of home schooling is that the children can learn based on their capacities. You can’t just push a new lesson if the previous one isn’t learned yet; it may take time but the results are better.

As mentioned earlier, home schooling is a bit costly. If you think that you can cut down the education expenses of your child, you”re wrong. The home schooling expenses are almost the same as that of traditional schools. However, if you participate in the forums of the parents of home-schoolers, you will discover that there are ways to cut down the costs. Of course, you will need to spend on the resource materials, computer, and internet; but you can also use outside resources like cultural events, public libraries, and many others. You will also get more cost-cutting ideas if you get in touch with other parents. The internet offers endless possibilities and with a bit of research and doing your homework, you can surely come up with a way to reduce the costs. If you don’t want to hire tutors, then you should learn the lessons as well. Besides, you’ve already taken up the various subjects of your kids and you only need to review them. You can get the other learning materials online and later on, teach your kids.

So you see, home schooling is by far the best option if your child is still very young. It will all depend on you and your kid if they continue this kind of education until they graduate in college.
