How much cereal or baby food should my six month old baby be eating?

I just recently got my baby to start eating cereal. She used to keep spitting it out. She still will not eat baby food. I’m worried that she is too dependant on formula. How do I correct this and how do I ensure she is getting enough food and nutrition? How much baby food and cereal should she be eating at six months of age? Any advice is appreciated.

I am going to have to say I would not recommend any cereal. It causes severe gas and constipation in babies, and has little to no nutritional value. Babies can survive and thrive on breast milk and/or formula for a year, and even more than a year. So it’s not a bad thing that she’s dependent on the formula. But at six months, i would start to try to introduce regular people food that you could mush with a food processor.

I gave my baby rice cereal and she did just fine. I gave her about 1/2 a cup I would say with pureed fruit or vegetables. She loved it and had no problems. I would give her about 1/2 the little tub of fruit or vegetables that I bought from the store. She is 17 months now and started more solid food about 6 or 7 months ago when her teeth started coming in.

Damian was the same way but I understand why he didn’t want cereal. Have you ever tasted that stuff? It taste like paste. I decide to make it a bit more appealing to him. I started to put smash veggies and fruits in the cereal. It work like a charm. I steam the veggies/fruit and puree, with some of the water that they were cook in. I then stir it into the cereal to a good consistency. There is no right or wrong as to how much she should be eating. Just let her eat as much as she wants, but I say make her at least 5 ounces and see how much she eats. Don’t force her to eat all that you have made for her she will let you know when she is done.

you could try, advocado or banana mashed. maybe you could add some water or formula for a while to make it smoother. i was told by midwife that once you get to 2 tablespoons for 1 meal then offer something diiferent at the next meal till thats 2 tablespoons then dinner

baby rice is nicer than cereal which can cause the baby to have colic. try adding puree apple to some baby rice or even other fruit to introduce different tastes to your baby.
