How old can babies start drinking water or juice?

My baby is six months old now. I’m still breast feeding him, but not as much as before. I know babies too young to drink water may harm them, but when can them start drinking water or juice is better?

I’ve heard you can introduce a little bit of juice or water around 6 months, and they can start drinking more of it when they are 1 year old. I could be wrong though, so wait for other answers :D

I don’t see how it could possibly harm them, but it would fill them up and replace a more nutritious choice, like breast milk or formula.

i never gave my babies water while breastfeeding. If your baby requires more water, your body adjusts to that need and your milk will then be more liquidy….which is why most breast fed babies never have diarrhea or diaper rash. they are well hydrated. Our bodies are amazing, able to read our babies needs silently.

I don’t give juice, it has WAY too much sugar in it. after 1 yrs of age, all they get (and need) is vitamin D milk, and water.

6 months is fine. I just asked my doc the this question at my son’s 6 months apt. She said its fine to give some water or diluted juice after lunch or such about 4oz.

24oz of formula in a day at least is what your baby should be drinking. OR breast milk !! But I give my son some water at night when he if he does wake up about 2oz of water and during the day I give my son some diluted apple juice after lunch.

P.s. My son does drink from a sippy cup and I put it in there for him.

He can have a little water and/or juice now, if he can drink from a cup. (It’s best to not put anything but pumped breastmilk or formula in a bottle.)

Water is preferable, of course, but a couple of ounces of diluted juice a day are ok too.

6 months is fine to offer sips of water here and there.
Juice is not necessary, just unneeded sugar.

Well you could give him some water if you feel he isnt having as many wet nappies. As long as the water is cooled boiled water its fine. If you have started him on solids his fluid intake will naturally reduce because he isnt having as many feeds. Its ok to give him a couple of oz a day – but i wouldnt give him much more than that.
With juices you can get baby juice from the supermarket in the baby section- it will have the appropriate age on the bottle but i personally wouldnt give juice until after 1 yr old- babies dont need juice when they are so young- they just dont need all that sugar. Water and milk (breast/ formula) are the only fluids they need. I have made my own prune juice when my son was constipated (at 41/2 months) but i dont see the need for it on a day to day basis. But thats a personal ddecision.

    hope i helped:)

you can give him diluted apple juice i was always told 2 ozs if juice and 2ozs of water!! i worked for a lady who breastfed and she did this when he was 4 months so 6 months old is fine to give diluted juice…i would not give it to him plain though.juice is not bad for you so i dont see why giving it to him will hurt..
