		<description>We did some basic sign language, too. We also tried (but it can be SOOO hard!) to stay in charge of our own emotions. I think kids learn at a pretty young age how to push buttons on their parents if the parent becomes reactive.

		<description>One of the strategies that my wife and I used with our daughter was to teach her baby sign language. Baby sign allows the child to communicate before they develop their verbal skills. 

Kids don&#039;t need to know a lot of words to be able to express most of the things that are important to them. Eat, drink, more, all done, and music were some of the most important for us.

Since our daughter could communicate clearly and be understood, we avoided many tantrums based on frustration.
