We also tried (but it can be SOOO hard!) to stay in charge of our own emotions. Baby sign allows the child to communicate before they develop their verbal skills. Kids don't need to know a lot of words to be able to express most of the things that are important to them. Eat, drink, more, all done, and music were some of the most important for us.
