Different Thermometer Types For Babies

March 29, 2010 by

It’s important to be able to tell what your baby’s temperature is – babies have less control over their body temperature than adults. You can usually get a rough idea of a baby’s temperature just by touching their forehead or neck with your hand – don’t use the baby’s hands as a guide though as the temperature of the extremities can vary from body temperature due to environmental conditions.

Obviously this is just an approximate guide to your baby’s temperature. There will be many occasions when you want a more accurate indication. The best thing is to use a proper thermometer of course, and there are a variety of different types available. Which is the best for you and your baby?

Traditional Mercury Filled Glass Tube Thermometers These are fine and are accurate. However, there’s always some risk of breakage and they require to be in position for a certain period of time to get an accurate reading. They need to be placed in the mouth, under the arm or in the rectum. None of these are ideal options if you have an agitated, agitated baby as a patient.

Digital Stick Thermometer Fairly similar to a conventional thermometer, but battery operated, manufactured from plastic – not glass – and with a digital read out. Put it under the baby’s arm for thirty seconds and you should get a pretty accurate reading with no operator error due to the digital readout.

Plastic Strip Contact Thermometers Hold these against your baby’s forehead for about fifteen seconds and the plastic strip type thermometer changes colour to indicate temperature. They are easy to use, cheap and reasonably accurate. It is possible to misread them however. If there is sweat on the baby’s forehead then this can impact upon the accuracy of the reading.

Non Contact Scanning Thermometers Nobody likes being poked or prodded when they’re ill and babies are no exception. So non contact scanner thermometers are a great option since they don’t require to touch any part of the body. They use infra-red (perfectly harmless) to take a reading of the skin temperature. Points where the skin is thin – such as the temple for example – are good points to take readings. Surface perspiration can still reduce the degree of accuracy obtained.

Ear Thermometers The ear is considered to give the most accurate reflection of the body’s core temperature and should give you a fast and accurate reading. Most ear thermometers come with disposable caps which you put over the tip and then throw away after each use to make it hygienic. Digital readouts are normal and negate any user error.

Any of the above types of thermometer will work just fine. Your choice will most likely depend upon your own personal preference.

If you want to minimize the possibility of reader error, then a thermometer with a digital display probably makes a lot of sense.

A non contact thermometer, or an ear thermometer, is probably a good choice if you want to avoid upsetting your baby.

From the point of view of accuracy, the ear thermometer type is the best choice.

All thing considered – the ear thermometer may very well be the best choice for both you and your baby.

Why Use A Hospital Grade Breast Pump

March 11, 2010 by

The most recommended breast pump available to new moms who are breast feeding is the hospital grade breast pump. The power of these pumps help to stimulate a moms breasts, and help the body as it raises prolactin hormones and oxytocin hormone levels. This helps to to produce the most breast milk.

There are personal breast pumps available for use, but hospital grade breast pumps are FDA approved to be used by more than one mother. A personal breast pump can only be used by a single mom.

Hospital pumps have built in precautions that help to preclude any type contamination. When used in a hospital, each mom is given her own collection kit.

Using the hospital pump is going to give you a better experience as they are stronger and more durable. This allows them to be more powerful, because their motors are stronger. Even a personal pump that costs the most money can not match one of these. The level of suction is very strong and this leads to great suction and successful pumping.

There is one drawback to these stronger and heavier pumps though. They are bulkier and therefore a little more difficult to take back and forth to work then a personal pump might be. However, they do have a three-year warranty versus a twelve month warranty of a personal pump. They are meant to last.

If you have a sick or premature baby, twin, need to increase your milk supply, or just need to begin lactating, hospital pumps are great for these types of situations. They are quite sturdy and are meant to be used often on a daily basis.

Hospital pumps are great for any type of pumping situation. They are sturdy and can be used daily and frequently. There are some special circumstances when a hospital pump is especially recommended. If you have a premature or a sick child, twin, you need to increase our milk supply, or you need to begin lactation.

The cost of these sturdy and efficient pumps is definitely more than a personal pump. However, they can be rented. Hospitals rent them as well as lactation consultants.

Child Potty Training

February 4, 2010 by

Has potty training your child not been as successful as you thought it would be? As a parent, you will have to decide when your child is developmentally ready to start using the potty. Most children are ready between two to three years old, but there are variables. Here are a few ideas that might make the process easier on you and your toddler.

Start practicing using the toilet around the age of two. Go out and purchase a small potty chair or a potty seat that fits over the regular sized toilet. If you are potty training a boy make it has a shield in front so they do not make a mess. Bring the potty chair into the room that your child spends most of their time in on a day or weekend when you have some free time. Let your child run around in just a shirt with their diaper off. If you have them in a diaper they will never get the idea that when they urinate it will run down their legs and make a mess.

Make sure you have a clear schedule for potty training. Don’t try to potty train when there is a disruption to the regular schedule. Anything, such as holidays, family visiting, a new baby, etc… can interfere with your toddler’s learning. The best time to attempt potty training is over a long weekend when you have several days free to dedicate to the process.

Once you are ready to work with your toddler, dedicate specific words to the process. Have a word for body parts and the urine and bowel movements. Avoid negative words such as naughty, so your child won’t feel self conscious. Be matter of fact with your child, and consider purchasing books to help your child with the concept of potty training.

Some parents will use a child’s action figure or a baby doll to demonstrate potty training. If you decide to do this, explain that the “baby is going pee pee in the potty”, and you can even let the toy graduate from diapers to underwear.

Incentives can streamline the training process. Not only will your child be dry and not have a diaper rash, but use rewards for successfully going to the bathroom. Use a sticker chart or other reward system to encourage positive reinforcement.

Use books and videos to help your child understand the process of potty training and see other children learning to use the potty. There are lots of books and videos available online or in your local bookstore. Let your child look at their favorite book while sitting on the potty to help the minutes pass by.

Mark the beginning of potty training on your calendar, and talk it up with your child. This will create a sense of anticipation in your child instead of dread, and your child will be ready to try. Mark it with stickers or other fun pictures and make it almost like a holiday.

Once learning to potty train, some children will enjoy the unroll the toilet paper. There is a solution for this. Take a used roll, and put it inside the new roll. This will slow down the roller speed, and allow your child to get toilet paper with less waste.

The training process can take a few days up to months. Don’t lose heart and get frustrated. Even once your child has seemingly mastered the potty, there will still be occasional accidents. With time and consistency, your child will soon be using the potty alone, and you will be wondering how your little baby grew up so fast.

Swine Flu Precautions for Your Preschool!

December 28, 2009 by

Childcare locations across the country are looking for ways to manage the H1N1 virus before they reach pandemic proportions. The Center for Disease Control is working closely with the National Association of Education of Young People to protect children at many child care and day care facilities throughout the United States.

The most efficient way to reduce the spread of this virus into an outbreak is it to sanitize all common areas. At Brilliance Preschool Academy, every day toys are cleaned and sanitized at the end of each and every school day. This should be the common practice of all childcare facilities to provide a germ-free environment. The priority for the administrators is to provide a healthy and safe environment for a child.

Schools should follow the published guides by the CDC on how to protect their student body. Anyone who handles children under the age of five years of age are encouraged to get vaccinated; since this age group has the highest risk levels for the H1NI virus. See if your child’s school has plans to have all their staff members receive their shots. It would also be wise to check with your pediatrician to see if your child needs to be vaccinated.

The CDC also recommends that all preschools have an emergency plan in place in case there is an outbreak of swine flu in the building. The plan should include provisions to immediately notify all parents and that communication should advise parents that it is essential to keep students home if they begin to display flu like symptoms. The CDC reports that the “symptoms of 2009 H1N1 flu virus can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue, and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting.”

When you visit your preschool you should see posters around the building encouraging the children to practice good hygiene. Materials are available from the government and the NAEYP free of charge, which reinforce the importance of hand washing and covering the nose and mouth when sneezing. Despite the best efforts of any school it still may become necessary at some point to close to control any outbreak. The CDC says if too many children or staff members become ill the best course of action will be to shutdown for 5 to 7 days.

Getting Rid Of Parental Stress

December 23, 2009 by

Having children is one of the best things one can experience. However, this does not come for free. Most parents experience a lot of stress caused by the children and the responsibility for them. Once children are born we rarely have more than a week in a row without worrying about our kids. Unless you really want to go nuts, it is an imperative to learn how to cope with such situation – fast.

First, remember that you should be calm. In situations where you can’t keep yourself together much longer, just walk away and take a few deep breaths. How can you know that the time is right? It’s simple: if you clench your fists and hear your voice rising, the stress attack is on the way. A few minutes more and you will lose your temper unless you go away. Remember that screaming will not do any good, even for you. If you have to scream, do it alone.

Speak your mind, even if it hurts. If you decide to let the situation spin out of control because you ignored the first signs of a problem, you’re the only one to blame. You can’t count on your children that they know what makes you stressed or what you want them to do unless you tell them. Avoid confrontation and you will end extremely stressed about more and more things until you won’t be able to hide it anymore and explode, possibly ruining the relationships you might have with your children.

Another thing is that you have to remain in control of a situation. Never let it follow its own course if you feel it’s not going to end well. If your kids are going to do something improper, bad or simply stupid, be the first to tell them that. If you can’t cope with the problem otherwise, use everything you have in your power (including grounding and similar punishments) to keep your children from doing things you don’t accept. Explain your reasons to them, but never let them make big mistakes – it is the shortest way for a parent to suffer a nervous breakdown.

Remember that even the smallest problems can greatly increase the parent’s stress level. In order to keep it in check, you have to always be able to relax, make sure that everything is under control and breath deeply anytime you meet a stressful situation. Also, solve the problems that cause you stress right away. Remember that when we talk about children, no problem can just go away. They will aggravate until you actually do something.

Child Day Care Tips

November 29, 2009 by

The first experience at daycare for a child who has always been at home with his or her family can be traumatic. The transition between home and this type of environment will go much more smoothly if the child is trusted to a high quality place of care. Because of the nurturing environment they can offer, many families look to their immediate loved ones or acquaintances for possible providers. There are, of course, additional tips for parents to consider if that one is not something that is available to them.

A child’s daycare is often determined through the recommendations of any acquaintances with children. Any constructive advice on the personalities of the staff and their competence should be taken into consideration by a parent. Each child and provider comes with their own foibles and quirks, so not everyone is going to give the same review to each caretaker – it is the provider that earns the harshest or most frequent negative criticism that should steer a parent away.

Another tip is to solicit the Department of Social Services for a list of daycare facilities in your area. Don’t be afraid to solicit the advice of your child’s doctor, who might have advice to give based on what he or she has heard from parents. Child caretakers can also be found in phone books and newspapers. The best providers will want to meet your child prior to enrollment. Allowing your child to meet their potential caretaker and see the place where they are going to be staying is very important.

Presuming the daycare allows it why not send the child’s favorite comfort material with them. This should help ease the sense of homesickness that many children feel during the first few weeks. Another tool parents use to help their child feel at ease is giving them a picture of home – usually of a family member – though parents should use caution because sometimes this only worsens the sense of loss that your child feels. If you can stay with the child for a while in the mornings, that is a great way to make him or her feel safe and secure in their new surroundings. If you give a time to your child that you will return and pick them up, make sure you are there on time. Many children are able to calm down and enjoy their daycare experience more if they know when you are going to be returning, and if you so consistently at the same time every day.

The actual leaving process needs to be as positive as it can be for the child. If you send a negative message, or if you seem upset, your child will only be ten times worse than she or he already was. It typically takes less than fifteen minutes of crying before the child calms down after their parents leave. Returning for the child is when you should spend a greater amount of time gushing over his or her bravery – your good-bye should be simple and to the point.

Although traditional “Its a Boy”and “Its a Girl”invitations are a safe and classic choice, creative invitations are bound to leave your guests itching with anticipation to attend your shower. Today, there are numerous companies that specialize in creative invitations for all types of events.

A “message in a bottle” invitation is a clever way to announce the birth of your baby. These can be purchased from a company or can even be made at home with materials that can be bought at a local craft store. A typical “message in a bottle”invitation is composed of a decorative paper with all the invite details, rolled up and placed inside of a plastic or glass bottle. To customize this idea in order to fit a baby shower, use baby bottles instead of regular plastic or glass bottles, and throw in some colorful confetti.

Personalized candy bars or chocolate boxes are another new trend that has spread around the United States rapidly. These make great baby shower invitations! You can alter and personalize the design of the wrapper to match your baby shower theme. Include all the event details like the date, time, place, and RSVP number. A company can professionally make these invitations, or, you can use a candy bar invitation wrapper template that can be found online to design your invitations.

Cute baby shoes can also be used as adorable little invitations. You can purchase tiny baby booties in the color and style of your choice and place decorative note card invitations inside of the baby shoe. Baby shoe invitations are relatively new and uncommon, but make lovely and charming invitations.

With new technologies emerging, it has become easier to create unconventional invitations like the “baby picture”invitation. When expectant mothers get an ultrasound at the doctor, they can ask for an ultrasound picture. This picture can be used to design clever invitations with a picture of the baby inside of the mothers womb. Many people find this moving and heartwarming.

Another type of invitation that has become possible to create with technology is the e-mail invitation, otherwise known as e-cards or e-invitations. There are numerous different types of e-mail invitations that you simply choose and customize to make it your own. Then, e-mail the invitation to all your guests. No More Tears – How To Sleep All Through The Night

November 11, 2009 by

Many families with small children are tormented by sleepless nights, nights where both parents and child doesn’t get enough sleep or sleeps very poorly. Having good sleeping routines and a safe place to sleep is very important for the child, and if this is the case sleeping quality and quantity will improve immensely.

Sleep is important for everyone – adults and children alike. If you are unable to sleep, or if you are woken many times when you want to sleep, it may destroy both night and day for you. For sleep is invigorating for the soul and body.

During sleep a lot happens in both the brain and the body. You can compare some of what happens in the brain, with how to keep tidy in a computer. For example, the files are placed in the right places, the hard disk is cleansed of noise (fragments of files), and that things are placed appropriately. Dreams can be compared with a kind of cleanup program where the consciousness is purified, old scraps are thrown out, and topics are put together in new and constructive ways.

Rest and sleep lets the body to regenerate muscles, cells and tissue. When we sleep the body produces and releases various substances in much greater quantity than when we are awake. This includes for instance growth hormones and hormones that regulate the milk production in lactating women.

If you, night after night, are awakened every time you have just fallen asleep, most people, as the nights go, becomes depressed, psychotic or have other psychiatric disorders. It is scary to think that this is used as a torture instrument. But it also tells us, that the parents must prioritize to get their sleep back, both for sake of the child, but also for the adults.

There are so many arguments to prioritize the good sleep in any family. But to fall asleep and sleep is not necessarily something that happens all by itself for all children. An important foundation for sleep is a good place to sleep.

Falling asleep

The child sleeps much dream sleep, called REM sleep. The type of sleep is shallow, and the baby is breathing irregularly, the eyes have quick, small movements behind closed eyelids (Rapid Eye Movements), and many babies wake up easily when they are in this stage. Most also easily falls back asleep. So wait a little, and don’t do anything until you have seen, if the child falls asleep again. Perhaps a slight humming is enough, or a gentle touch on the forehead or over the muzzle. For many children, the first superficial sleep well last 20 minutes to hour.

When a child is tired, it must be allowed to sleep. The child sleeps better if it has a clean diaper, is full and the temperature is pleasant. If it can be avoided, don’t accustom your baby to sleep with a breast or a pacifier in his or hers mouth. It is also unwise to accustom the child to hold the father’s or mother’s hand when it is about to sleep. Then the pacifier, the breast or the hands will be the signal to that now is the time to sleep for the child. Crying can also work the same way if the child gets used to cry before sleeping. The trick is to make the child falls asleep without any specific stimuli.

It is not good for any children for them to cry themselves to sleep. A child that cries must be comforted. If something is wrong, you must help the child. Food, clean diaper, less light or less noise or more security. Is the child sick, then you must consider what is wrong. Is it hot (signs of fever)? Is it cold? Is it a stomach ache? Is this constipation? Consider wether a health visitor or doctor should be contacted and asked for advice.

Potty Training Boys – 3 Reasons You Should Start Potty Training A Boy Sitting Down

November 9, 2009 by

Potty training boys can be a lot harder than potty training girls; this is usually because boys have more steps to learn. This article will discuss 3 reasons you should start potty training a boy sitting down.

1. Lessen The Confusion:

It really doesn’t matter whether or not they learn how to urinate standing up or sitting down, but either way they will still have to learn how to go to the bathroom sitting down so they can have a bowel movement. Because of this fact it is often recommended that boys learn how to do both sitting down first, this will lessen the confusion as they do not have to learn two different skills simultaneously.

2. Fewer Messes:

After they have mastered urinating standing up, it is likely you will have more messes to clean up as they perfect their aim. This is a natural part of the process and may make things a little more difficult for you if it is done in combination with simply learning to use the potty. If you potty train a boy sitting down first, there will be fewer messes to deal with which will make things go smoother for both of you.

3. Quicker Results:

When you tackle one step at a time, you will most likely see faster results for the whole process. After having successfully learned to use the potty, mastering the skill of standing to pee should be a piece of cake. Messes for this next process are inevitable, but they won’t be in combination with normal accidents that occur for the normal potty training experience.

In this article we looked at 3 reasons to start potty training a boy sitting down. Boys have more to learn than girls do, because of this sitting down during the process is less confusing for them. The benefits are fewer messes in the beginning and faster results since tackling one step at a time is much easier on both of you.

Potty training toddlers is really hard; weeks of accidents and frustration are usually inevitable. But the end result is worth it; hopefully the above steps will help you get through the diaper to underwear transition.

Potty train your boy sitting down or standing up? That is the question…

Baby Gifts Are the Main Hit of a Traditional Baby Shower

October 27, 2009 by

When it comes to baby showers, one of the moments most anticipated is the gift giving segment of the event. There are no words that can describe the feeling when you are watching the mommy-to-be reach for the present you gave and begin to open it. The excitement is overwhelming, and your heart fills with joy as you watch her eyes glisten while she unwraps it. The best part of all this is the satisfaction knowing that your gift is unique, original, and will be of great use to the mommy-to-be and her precious baby. This article will offer some great gift-giving ideas that are distinct, extremely useful, and will make the expectant mother smile from ear to ear.

One heartwarming idea that is adorable and shows thoughtfulness and care is a personalized piggy bank. These days, parents are placing an emphasis on saving for their baby’s future and career. A customized piggy bank with a financial seed towards the baby’s savings fund makes a great gift from a family member. This is not only a cute gift, but also a smart one; it is crucial that parents begin thinking of their childs future from the day they are born. Some people prefer giving a piggy bank with a gift card from a baby department store or childrens clothing store.

Baby gift baskets are also very original, and each basket is going to be a one-of-a-kind gift. Buy a decent sized pretty basket (the material, shape, and color of the basket are up to you), fill it up with items that you think will be the most beneficial to the expectant mother, and decorate it. Popular items to fill your baby gift basket with are baby bottles, bibs, pacifiers, infant toys, baby clothing, and gift cards. Some people throw in a little something extra for the mommy, such as a spa massage gift card or a book. Candy and chocolates can also make your basket sweeter, and will satisfy some of mommas cravings. Whatever you decide to put in your basket, make sure to make it is personalized, and consider items that you know the expectant mother will need or want.

Personalized baby jewelry is a popular gift in Latin America, but not so common in the United States. A tiny golden bracelet with the babys name is endearing and beautiful, and it will make a great keepsake as your baby grows older. Any kind of baby jewelry, whether it be personalized or not, makes a wonderful gift which everyone will think is absolutely adorable.

Today, a new trend for mothers in the United States is to sport a cute, stylish baby diaper bag, which they can easily turn into tote bags or even laptop cases once the baby grows older. From designer baby bags to non-label, trendy baby bags, there are numerous different types of diaper bags that will look great and fit budgets of all sizes. Some popular designer baby bags, or multi-function totes, as they call them, are made by COACH, Kate Spade, and Louis Vuitton. However, today, there are many non-label, cool baby bags that are equally as trendy and a fraction of the cost.

Interesting Baby Name Trends in 2009

October 27, 2009 by

This year, the hottest trends for baby naming are quite a bit unusual. From biblical names with a twist to foreign names, 2009 sets a whole new pattern for naming babies. Name meanings and history are important to consider when naming a baby, since that name will be something that will be with them for the rest of their lives. Although name definitions are the first things one usually looks at when choosing the perfect name for a baby, following name trends has become very common in today’s society. Year 2008 keeps a little bit of the traditional element in popular baby names, but also integrates modern style, a retro factor, and an unusual touch.

As it has been established for the past few years, biblical traditional names are some of the most popular. Jacob, Joshua, Abigail, Daniel, and Gabriel are some names that have been prevalent in recent times. A few uncommon additions to these common biblical names are those such as Caleb, Ethan, Zachary, and Elijah. The name “Elijah” is actually one of the most popular names this year. Many people hold true to biblical names because they are classic, and they usually have a beautiful, deep meaning that professes great things for your babys life.

An interesting trend this year is for Western parents to give their children foreign names. Spanish, Asian, Italian, Irish, and Arab names have become quite popular amongst North Americans and the English. Carlos, a Spanish name meaning “free man,” Connor, an Irish name that stands for “much wanted,” and Lian, a Chinese name whose meaning is a “lotus flower,” are some of the most widespread foreign names that have gone global.

Another cool and trendy practice in 2008 is giving your name a classic, traditional name with a twist in the spelling. For instance, instead of naming your baby girl “Natalie,” come up with a different and creative way to spell the name, such as “Natelly.” Alterations to common names should be well planned and thought out. Place an emphasis on the part of the name, or a sound in the name that you like the most. This is a fabulous way to make your baby stand out from the rest. Uniquely spelled names are ranked at the top this year.

A continuing pattern that began last year and has continued throughout this year is to give your baby the name of a place. Australia, Athena, London, Ireland, and Paris are common place names that have become popular baby names this year. Some believe that this trend is a result of the popularity of Paris Hilton, a famous heiress and style icon. Naming babies after a location on the map is probably the top trend for 2009.

Lastly, giving children weird and unusual names is a common trend today among celebrities. From “Apple” to “Shiloh,” these names are sure to stand out from the crowd. When choosing the right name for your little one, remember consider all aspects of the name, from sound and spelling to meaning and significance.

Toddlers Biting – Stop the Biting Without Biting Back

Surely you have heard the idea that biting back a child that bites is the fastest way to get them to stop. It just didn’t seem like a good idea – teach him to stop doing something by doing it to him. No thanks. I was certain there was a better way.

Toddler Biting – It could be a symptom of something else going on with your child. Unfortunately the toddler will be unable to express to you what it is that is motivating the behavior. You are going to have to try and figure it out on your own! Here are a few places you may want to start:

* They wanted a toy.

* They got hurt by someone

* They wanted attention.

This list is just there to get you thinking and is by no means an extensive list of motives. That is what you need to get to – the motivation of your child. Once you have that, it will become much more clear as to what you need to do next.

Stay Focused On the Cause

If you know the why of your toddlers biting then you are best equipped to lead your child to a positive outcome. If the cause was the desire to have a toy, work with them on communicating their needs in an appropriate manner. Do they have the vocabulary? If not – get on that!

Talking Isn’t Enough – You Need To Teach

This is a child we are talking about. You could talk until you are blue in the face and things would not necessary change. Teach your child what is expected. Give them a chance to practice over and over again. Show them that your method works. Do NOT let them get what they want when they bite. That only encourages the behavior.

Encourage Positive Behaviors

Watch how your child is playing with others. Be aware of the warning signs of frustration, anger, hurt, or attention. If you see the situation brewing – intervene and change the situation. Give your child a hug. Tickle them for a bit – let them get the energy out of their system. Use substitution distraction – give them something else to focus on BEFORE it becomes a problem.

Settling Upon Child Crib Sheets For Your Nursery

Unfortunately although parents of a newborn often spend extensive time and research on the furniture and colors, they often forget to consider one of the most important items given that your baby will spend so much time in the crib, and that is nursery bedding. When parents do decide to buy the baby bedding, the range of styles and materials and the variety of items can be quite bewildering. Baby bedding is the cornerstone of the nursery and is important for your baby’s comfort and health; style and designer names must not be the only consideration.

Safe and appropriate crib bedding is important not just for warmth, but also for comfort and cleanliness; bedding that is too warm or not warm enough will cause the infant to be restless and uncomfortable, potentially creating disturbed nights for the baby and for the parents alike. For your child’s health use baby-safe laundry detergent to wash all baby bedding you’ve received (either purchased or gift) to prevent your child from being exposed to dust, allergens, or pesticides from where the bedding had been stored.

Baby boy crib bedding give you three benefits over buying each item separately: coordinated style and design of your baby’s bed, faster and smoother shopping, and better value because total price is cheaper. Choose crib bedding that’s cozy and warm so that your baby feels like he’s being held even when he’s in his crib.

If you want to ensure that you are getting full value for your money, you should exercise caution to avoid buying a set with a number of useless items, as this may be unworthy. While they are great for adults and decorate living rooms and family rooms, those pillows or blankets with a lot of buttons, patchwork or frills can cause injury or worse to a newborn or young children and should be kept away from them to avoid choking or smothering. Be sure to inspect each item in your baby’s crib before buying it, especially the pillows, as decorations can choke an infant, and always be ware of a baby that falls asleep face down, since this is a major suffocation risk.

Comfort, simplicity, tradition and value are found in many economical fabric and bedding sets. Many parents find that extra blankets and quilts are unnecessary, with a few good-quality fitted crib sheets serving most of their needs. Cotton being cool and breathable in summer and warm during cooler climate is an obvious choice as a material for all seasons.

When winter brings icy weather many parents look for warmer blankets and thicker sheets to protect their baby from the elements. In the event you decide to decorate the nursery before you find out the gender of the infant, you would be wise to choose neutral colors to avoid having the dilemma such as either a pink room for a boy or a blue colored room with trucks for a girl when choosing a crib set.
