When do babies start scribbling with crayons?
I read on Baby Center that babies start scribbling with crayons around 12 months. My daughter is 13 months and most things still go into her mouth… especially paper.

My daughter’s almost 14 months and she does a little of both. lol. We just got out those jumbo sized crayons and she’s a good little scribbler, but still occassionally wants to put them in her mouth. She’ll start coloring again if we correct her.
My daughter never took much of an interest till 15 months. She finally stopped attempting to eat random objects a month shy of 2yrs. But to this day (25 months) she still has a rough time coloring on paper . . she prefers random objects and walls. My son has a different temperament. He is very eager to learn and listen. So he stopped the whole sticking things in his mouth when he was approx. a year and was scribbling with crayons by 12 – 13 months.
I would say not until closer to 2 or at least 18 months… Its perfectly normal at 13 months that everything still goes in her mouth. My son is 19 months and everything still goes in his mouth. We have tried to show him how to color with a crayon but he hasn’t caught on yet…all he does is try to eat them lol… All I can suggest is you just keep trying but it may not happen for awhile.
My son is 29 months and still does not like to color. It keeps his attention for all of 2 minutes. He does like to finger paint and play with play dough though. All kids are different.
All kids are different. I have triplets, they are 7 now, but my daughter started taking an interest and scribbling at about 13-14 months, my son about 14 months, and then my other son not until about 18-19 months, before that he just ate the crayons.
My daughter got her first coloring book at 12 months. She didn’t really start understanding until aroung 14 months what to do. Now at 23 months she loves to color, and is already starting to color within the lines. Just redirect your toddler when they start to put the crayon in their mouth and never force her to color, she may rebel and hate writing all through school. She will gain interest soon enough. Good luck.
